Buddha Jayanti being celebrated across the country [In Pictures]

KATHMANDU: The 2567th Buddha Jayanti is being observed throughout the country.

Also known as the Buddha Purnima celebrations, the day celebrates the birth anniversary of Shakya Prince Siddhartha Gautam who went to be known as Buddha, or the wise one, after attaining enlightenment. Interestingly, all three important events of Siddhartha Gautam’s life occurred on the day of Buddha Purnima – birth, attaining enlightenment and death.

On this day, Buddhist followers worship Lord Buddha at different stupas and monasteries all over the world. The state celebrations are organized at Lumbini – the birthplace of Buddha.

Buddhist followers have congregated at different Buddhist stupas like Bouddhanath and Swoyambhunath, among others, from the early morning.
