KATHMANDU: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has extended his best wishes to the Nepali movie ‘Gurkha Warrior’.

In a letter addressed to the movie producers, British PM Sunak conveyed that despite his busy schedule preventing him from attending the world premiere of the movie at Imax Cineworld in the UK on September 10, he takes pride in the creation of a film highlighting the bravery of Gurkha soldiers.

“I am delighted to learn about the film depicting the courage, sacrifices, and dedication of the valiant Gurkha soldiers. Thank you very much for the invitation. Although I am unable to attend the premiere ceremony, I extend my heartfelt wishes for the success of the premiere and the movie. Thank you for your letter,” replied the British PM to the communication sent by the movie’s creators.

Milan Chams, both the director and producer of the movie, had dispatched a letter along with an invitation to the British PM through the UK’s Minister of Cultural Affairs some time ago.

Director Chams expressed his confidence that the conversations sparked in the international market by “Gurkha Warrior” would greatly benefit the Nepali film industry.

According to Chams, the film is based on true stories and narrates the experiences of Gurkha soldiers who were enlisted by the British Army and engaged in combat in the Malaya Jungle in 1949.

Actors such as Ritesh Chamling, Bijaya Lama, Rebika Gurung, Kabita (Gaumaya) Ale, and Sara Rai, among others, have played roles in the movie, which will be presented in the Nepali, English, and Hindi languages, as informed by Chams.
