Bring country to a standstill if UML leadership is attacked, Oli tells cadres

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has instructed party cadres to bring the country to a standstill if there is any physical attack on the party’s leadership.

Addressing party workers on Thursday after taking oath for his new term as the party chairperson, Oli said preparations should be made for protests as attempts were underway to target the UML leadership.

“It seems that spreading propaganda against the CPN-UML leadership is not sufficient. There is now talk of reviving Panchayat-era misdeeds—launching physical attacks or filing fabricated cases against the leadership,” Oli said. “This media trial could turn into a real conspiracy. The day the UML leadership is touched, the country must come to a halt, and this government must fall.”

Oli was referring to preparations of the judicial enquiry commission investigating the incidents of September 8 and 9 to summon the then Prime Minister and Home Ministers to record statements.

He said the government led by Sushila Karki must be brought down and instructed party cadres across the country to remain on standby for that.

Oli also accused the government of going beyond its mandate of conducting elections. He expressed confidence that the court, taking into account the country’s complex situation, would restore Parliament and return the nation to a constitutional path.

The UML chair expressed dissatisfaction with the enquiry commission and demanded the formation of another commission.
