
KATHMANDU: A high-level breakfast meeting with distinguished representatives from BIMSTEC member states was held in Kathmandu on Thursday.
The meeting, organized in the initiation of Dr Sharmila Parajuli Dhakal, chairperson of the International Relations and Global Diplomacy Dialogue (IRGDD) and the Ambassador Club, focused on fostering dialogue around agriculture food security, and regional cooperation within the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) region.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Dhakal expressed her delight at hosting visionary leaders committed to building a sustainable agricultural future.
Among the guests were Bhutan’s Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, Yonten Phuntsho, BIMSTEC Secretary General Indra Mani Pandey, Secretary of the Ministry of Industry Krishna Bahadur Raut, Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Govinda Bahadur Karki, Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Suresh Acharya, and Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Dr Govinda Prasad Sharma, along with other diplomats, former ambassadors, and business representatives.
Addressing the gathering, BIMSTE Secretary General Pandey reiterated BIMSTEC’s commitment to regional collaboration. He highlighted BIMSTEC’s unique identity—rooted in shared geography, civilizational heritage, social structures, and mutually intelligible languages.
Pandey also said he was excited about returning to Kathmandu in May to attend the Sagarmatha Dialogue. He also extended his best wishes to IRGDD and emphasised its potential role in shaping future regional dialogues.
