Both claims to form govt in Sudurpashchim rejected

KATHMANDU: Both claims submitted by rival factions of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) to form government in Sudurpashchim Province Assembly have been rejected.

Province Chief Nazir Miyan rejected claims submitted by NUP leaders Laxman Kishore Chaudhary and Kailash Chaudhary, stating that they lacked the support of majority members required to form government.

Laxman Kishore, who is close to NUP Patron Resham Lal Chaudhary, submitted his claim with the support of the Nepali Congress and CPN (Unified Socialist), among other parties, while Kailash, who belongs to the faction led by NUP President Ranjita Shrestha had shown the support of assembly members from CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center), among others.

Province Chief Miyan has given parties two more days to submit their claims.

The ruling coalition of the center is preparing to form a government under CPN (Unified Socialist). As per the understanding reached among ruling coalition partners, Unified Socialist and NUP will lead the provincial government by turns.
