KATHMANDU: Sarlahi District Court has sentenced self-styled spiritual leader Ram Bahadur Bomjon to 10 years in jail for child sex abuse.

The court has also ordered Bomjon to pay Rs 500,000 as compensation to the victim.

A single bench of District Judge Jivan Kumar Bhandari found Bomjon guilty of child sexual abuse last week. The bench announced the sentence on Monday.

Bomjon was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police in Kathmandu on January 9. He was subsequently placed in judicial custody by the Sarlahi District Court on January 11.

Bomjon faced charges of raping a minor girl within his camp. The district court had issued an arrest warrant for him four years ago.
