Bodies of two Indian nationals recovered in Manang

KATHMANDU: The bodies of two Indian nationals, who had gone missing in Manang since October 20, were recovered on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal, the deceased have been identified as Jignesh Kumar Lallu Bhai Patel (52) and his daughter Priyansa Kumari Patel (17). “Their bodies were found buried under snow at around 2 pm on Sunday, approximately 100 metres above the Milarepa Monastery in Manang Ngisyang Rural Municipality–5,” the APF Nepal said in a statement.

The two had left Gyalsen Hotel in Manang Ngisyang–4 on October 20 to visit the monastery, but soon lost contact. When they did not return, the hotel management informed the APF’s Mountain Rescue Training Centre in Manang.

After initial search efforts became unsuccessful, the APF Nepal sent a specialized mountain rescue team led by DSP Hira Bahadur Jisi, along with necessary rescue equipment. The team eventually located the bodies buried under the snow near the monastery.

Efforts are underway to retrieve the bodies from the site, said DSP Shailendra Thapa, the joint spokesperson for the APF Nepal.
