BIMSTEC Summit kicks off in Bangkok

BANGKOK: The sixth summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) has officially begun in Bangkok.

The summit commenced at the Shangri-La Hotel with a group photo session and the presentation of the agenda among the heads of government from member countries.

Thailand’s Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, welcomed the leaders of the delegations from the BIMSTEC member states. Friday’s session will feature speeches from the heads of government of the member countries, including Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli.

During the summit, following the signing of the BIMSTEC Maritime Transport Cooperation agreement, the leaders from Thailand, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Sri Lanka are scheduled to address the gathering.
