Bhutanese Refugees Scam: Rayamajhi, Khand, 14 others denied bail

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the police to send 16 individuals, including former deputy prime minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and former home minister Bal Krishna Khand, to prison until a final verdict is reached in the Bhutanese refugees scam case.

District Judge Prem Prasad, presiding over a single bench, issued the order following a bail hearing for the case on Friday. Out of the 18 individuals arrested for investigation into the case, the court granted bail to Tanka Gurung and Laxmi Maharajn upon submission of bail bonds worth Rs 1 million and Rs 500,000, respectively.

The decision means Sandeep Rayamajhi, Narendra KC, former home secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, former home minister Ram Bahadur Thapa’s security adviser Indrajit Rai, former lawmaker Ang Tawa Sherpa, Keshav Dulal, Sanu Bhandari, Sandesh Sharma, Sagar Rai, Bhutanese refugee leader Teknath Rijal, Haj Committee Chairman Shamsher Mian, Ram Sharan KC, Govinda Kumar Chaudhary, and Hari Bhakta Maharjan, along with Rayamajhi and Khand, will remain in jail until the court delivers its final verdict.

All of them has been sent to Central Jail, Sundhara.
