Bhurtel, Aasif hit half centuries as Nepal defeats Kuwait

KATHMANDU: Nepal registered its second straight win in the 2025 Hong Kong Men’s T20I Series with a six-wicket victory over Kuwait at the Mission Road Ground in Hong Kong on Thursday.

Batting first, Kuwait scored 185 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Nepal achieved the target, losing four wickets with seven balls to spare.

The opening pair of Ravija Sandaruwan (26) and Clinto Anto (41) added 43 runs for the first wicket for Kuwait. Meet Bhavsar scored 35, Bilal Tahir hit a quickfire 32 off 12 balls, while captain Mohammad Aslam and Usman Patel contributed 17 and 13 runs, respectively.
Sompal Kami claimed three wickets for Nepal, while Nandan Yadav secured two, and Lalit Rajbanshi and Kushal Bhurtel chipped in with a wicket each.

In reply, Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh added 127 runs for the first wicket for Nepal. Bhurtel played an attractive knock of 81 off 50 balls, which included six sixes and six fours. Aasif Sheikh scored 53 runs off 38 balls, hitting two sixes and four fours. Although Kushal Malla fell for four runs, Dipendra Singh Airee attacked the Kuwait bowlers with a 12-ball 31. Gulshan Jha and Rohit Paudel remained unbeaten at 9 and 4, respectively.

Yasin Patel took two wickets for Kuwait, while Mohammed Shafeeq and Mohammad Aslam claimed one wicket each.

Nepal defeated Qatar by eight wickets in its first match, while Kuwait registered a four-wicket victory over hosts Hong Kong.

Nepal will play its final league-stage match against hosts Hong Kong on Saturday.

The top two teams after the league stage will compete in the final, scheduled for Sunday.
