KATHMANDU: Bharatpur Metropolitan City has proposed to spend Rs 5.19 billion in the upcoming fiscal year 2025/26.
Deputy Mayor Chitrasen Adhikari presented the budget for 2025/26 in the municipal assembly meeting on Sunday.
The proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year is lower than the current fiscal year’s budget. The metropolis has allocated Rs 6.55 billion for the current fiscal year.
To fund its expenses, the metropolis has targeted to raise Rs 1.8 billion from internal revenue which includes income from land and property registration and royalties from mines and minerals. Additionally, it expects to receive Rs 2.15 billion from intergovernmental fiscal transfers, Rs 319.1 million from federal revenue sharing, and Rs 140.4 million from the provincial government’s revenue sharing. Similarly, it expects to raise Rs 50 million from public participation and Rs 30 million from Road Board Nepal, while it expects to meet the shortfall of Rs 700 million through bank deposits.
Deputy Mayor Adhikari said that the budget prioritizes the continuation of incomplete and ongoing projects, urban infrastructure development, agriculture, education, health, and social development sectors.
A total of Rs 600 million has been allocated to complete incomplete and ongoing projects, Rs 245 million for payments related to multi-year contracts and Rs 947.8 million for ward-level projects.
Additionally, the metropolis has set aside Rs 40 million to complete the unfinished work of the Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium, and another Rs 40 million for the construction of the metropolis’s administrative building.
Adhikari said that Rs 90 million has been allocated for agriculture and livestock development programs.
To enhance access to quality education, the metropolis has earmarked Rs 105 million for educational programs. Similarly, more than Rs 30 million has been allocated to improve health services, including free outpatient tickets at Bharatpur Hospital.
The budget also prioritizes initiatives such as child insurance program for daughters, sports development, promotion of entrepreneurship and employment generation, environmental clean up, free drinking water, cleanliness and greenery promotion.
