KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the Nepal Socialist Party (NSP), Dr Baburam Bhattarai, has said that a high-level investigation commission should be formed as corruption allegations have been made against the country’s executive head.
Talking to reporters in Butwal on Friday, Bhattarai said all cases of corruption, including the corruption in Maoist cantonments, should be thoroughly examined by forming a strong and impartial commission. “The CPN-UML’s proposition for a high-level commission seems reasonable in principle. It is imperative to institute a high-level commission that possesses the capacity to conduct equitable investigations across all cases,” Bhattarai said. “Addressing corruption requires more than just targeting individuals; it demands systemic endeavors to root out such practices.”
Bhattarai also expressed his willingness to face consequences if any decisions made by his cabinet have caused loss to the state. “My cabinet made certain decisions related to Lalita Niwas. If necessary, an inquiry should be conducted. I am prepared to cooperate with the investigation,” he said.
He further advocated for the establishment of a high-level commission to probe the 100 kg gold smuggling as well.
