KATHMANDU: The Special Court has ordered the release of Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker and former minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet on a bail of Rs 2.5 million.
A division bench comprising of Judges Tej Narayan Singh Rai, Ram Bahadur Thapa and Bidur Koirala issued the order on Sunday.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a corruption case against Basnet on Jestha 1 (May 14), in connection with the procurement of Telecommunications Traffic Monitoring and Fraud Control System (Teramocs) by Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA).
The CIAA charged Basnet and 15 others, including former NTA Chairperson Digambar Jha, for alleged corruption in the procurement. The anti-graft body is seeking to recover Rs 3.21 billion in restitution from Basnet alone.
