KATHMANDU: Popular Nepali actress Barsha Raut is set to make her Hindi film debut.

Raut has recently signed on to play the lead role in the Hindi feature film ‘Rimjhim’, which was previously titled ‘Rimjhim Gire Sawan’, to be directed by Arnab Pal.

According to the production team, the film will be shot in the remote hills of Lachung in northern Sikkim.

Raut, who began her acting journey in 2016 with Nai Nabannu La 4 and gained fame through hits like Chhakka Panja, Jatra, and Daal Bhaat Tarkari, will essay the role of Rimjhim Kshetri, a mother facing emotional struggles under a death sentence. This will be her first foreign project.

Director Pal said Raut was chosen for her exceptional acting skills and the film’s requirement for a Nepali actor fluent in Hindi while retaining a Nepali accent. The movie also stars Indian actors like Subrat Dutt, Yashpal Sharma and Ashish Vidyarthi.

Raut expressed excitement about the challenging role and the opportunity to work with a team recognized in India.
