Banke man arrested for abetting suicide of police constable

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Pushkar Thapa Magar (27) of Baijanath Rural Municipality-2 of Banke district for an investigation into the death of police constable Karishma Sunar.

Karishma was found hanging inside the restroom of the District Police Office, Siraha, where she was deployed, on June 13.

Police Inspector at District Police Office, Siraha, Udaybhan Dwivedi, said Pushkar has been arrested on the charge of abetting suicide. “We have sought the district court’s order to keep him in custody for investigation,” Dwivedi said.

Dwivedi said police arrested Pushkar based on messages that he exchanged with the deceased.

“Karishma hailed from Khajura-4 of Banke. Pushkar, who is said to be her boyfriend, is also from Banke,” Dwivedi said. “They were said to be in love for a long time. We will be able to share more details only after conducting further investigations.”

According to police, a preliminary investigation shows Sunar was compelled to take her own life due to the mental torture inflicted by her boyfriend.
