KATHMANDU: Indra Singh Baniya has been elected as the parliamentary leader of the Nepali Congress (NC) in the Bagmati Province Assembly.

In the voting held on Wednesday afternoon, Baniya received 22 votes, while his competitor, Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama, secured 14 votes.

All 37 NC members in the provincial assembly participated in the meeting. One vote was declared invalid.

Lama had lost the vote of confidence in the NC parliamentary party on Tuesday.

The decision means Baniya, who is also the President of the NC Bagmati Province Committee, will now become the Chief Minister of the Bagmati Province Government.

In the parliamentary party elections held after the 2022 elections, Lama had defeated Baniya by four votes.
