ITAHARI: A Bangladeshi citizen attempting to enter Nepal through the Nepal-India border in Rani, Morang, has been returned.

According to DSP Gyanendra Bahadur Basnet, the spokesperson for the District Police Office, Morang, Uttam Sarkar (46) from Tangail Purabari of Bangladesh, was returned on Tuesday as he tried to enter Nepal via the Nepal-India border point.

Following recent political developments in Bangladesh, the Central Security Committee had instructed security agencies to tighten security along the Nepal-India border.

“A large number of security personnel have been deployed at the border,” DSP Basnet told Himal Press.

Sarkar had attempted to enter Nepal by blending in with a group of Indian citizens. He was turned back from the No. 1 checkpoint after security personnel found a Bangladeshi citizenship card in his possession, Basnet added.
