Bangladesh, Netherlands qualify for Women’s T20 World Cup

KATHMANDU: Bangladesh and the Netherlands have secured two of the four available spots for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, winning their respective Super Six stage matches on Wednesday.

The Netherlands booked their spot after defeating the US by 21 runs (DLS) in the Super Six stage match in the Global Qualifier at the TU International Cricket Stadium, Kathmandu.

This will be the Netherlands’ first-ever appearance in the Women’s T20 World Cup.

Chasing a target of 129 set by the US, the Netherlands posted a quickfire 90 for two in 12 overs before rain interrupted the play. Heather Siegers scored 28 from 12 balls, while Phebe Molkenboer remained unbeaten on 46 from 43 deliveries.

Earlier, the US managed 129 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Gargi Bhogle scored 36 while Isani Vaghela remained not out at 32 for the losing side.

In the other match, Bangladesh defeated Thailand by 39 overs to book a spot in the T20 World Cup. Juairiya Ferdous and Sobhana Mostary put together a 100-run partnership to post a competitive total of 165 in 20 overs. Juairiya scored 56 from 45 balls, while Sobhana added 59 from 42 deliveries.

Chasing 166, Thailand struggled after opener Suwanan Khiaoto was bowled in the first ball by Marufa Akter and folded for 126 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Nattakan Chantham scored 46 off 41 balls for Thailand, while Captain Naruemol Chaiwai and Nannapat Koncharoenkai contributed 30 and 29, respectively.

In the other match of the day, Scotland defeated Ireland by 39 runs to keep them on the hunt for the remaining two spots.
