KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecom Authority (NTA) has lifted the ban on the video-sharing mobile application TikTok.
Issuing a notice on Friday, NTA said it lifted the ban on TikTok as per the cabinet decision taken on August 22. “Since the cabinet meeting held on August 22 decided to lift the ban on TikTok, the NTA issues a directive to all internet service providers and mobile service providers to lift the ban on TikTok until further notice, exercising the authority granted by Section 15 of the Telecommunications Act, 1996,” the NTA said in the notice.
The previous government led by the CPN (Maoist Center) had imposed the ban on TikTok in November last year, stating that it was necessary to regulate the use of the social media platform because it was disrupting social harmony, goodwill and diffusing indecent materials.
