KATHMANDU: Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), Balendra Shah, has congratulated lawmakers elected from Kathmandu, stating that he was eager to work with them.
He said cooperation with lawmakers would be key to finding a sustainable solution to problems that Kathmandu city is suffering from.
“I respect efforts made by all the candidates in the recently held elections. Congratulations and best wishes to all the elected candidates,” Shah wrote on his Facebook page. “KMC is the capital city. It is connected to many issues of direct concern to people all over the country. The identification of problems and long-term solution to those problems can disseminate positive energy and example all over the country.”
Some problems, jurisdictions and rights are interrelated in such a way that it becomes difficult for the KMC alone to find a sustainable solution.
Shah said problems that KMC cannot solve on its own can be solved through cooperation. “Some problems, jurisdictions and rights are interrelated in such a way that it becomes difficult for the KMC alone to find a sustainable solution,” he said, adding: “Means and resources of the federal government will be needed for the management of river banks, waste management and address other issues of Bagmati, Tukucha and Dhobikhola rivers.”
He also solicited the support and cooperation of all to make KMC beautiful, healthy and equitable. “We are eager to build Kathmandu in cooperation with you,” he added.
