KATHMANDU: The Bagmati Province Government has filed a writ petition against the federal government at the Supreme Court, seeking the annulment of the Urban Area Public Transport (Management) Authority Act.
In the writ petition, the provincial government has argued that the proposed authority should fall under its jurisdiction.
The Act, which has already been approved by the parliament, states that the Urban Area Public Transport (Management) Authority, the agency to oversee public transport in the Kathmandu Valley, falls under federal government control.
Minister for Labor, Employment, and Transport, Bagmati Province, Laxman Lamsal, filed the writ petition in the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court.
The provincial government has argued in the writ petition that the Act contradicts the constitution and should be repealed. It contends that the authority to manage the transport sector within the province, including the Kathmandu Valley, should come under its jurisdiction.
