KATHMANDU: Australia has crashed out of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after the match between Ireland and Zimbabwe was washed out on Tuesday due to a wet outfield.
Hosts Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe have qualified for the Super Eight stage from Group B.
Australia needed Ireland to thrash Zimbabwe by a heavy margin and win their last remaining match against Oman to have any chance of progressing beyond the group stage.
Sri Lanka have six points from three matches, while Zimbabwe have five from three matches. Australia have two points from three matches. Oman are winless in Group B so far.
Although the 2021 champions thrashed Ireland by 67 runs in the first match, they suffered a shock 23-run defeat against Zimbabwe and conceded an eight-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka.
India have confirmed their spot in the Super Eight from Group A. Similarly, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe from Group B, West Indies and England from Group C and New Zealand and South Africa from Group D have also qualified to Super Eight.
