KATHMANDU: At least 16 people died when a bus met with an accident at Bethanchowk of Kavre on Tuesday evening.
According to Bhagwan Adhikari, chairperson of Bethanchowk Rural Municipality, the bus was returning to Salle in Banepa-11 after attending Chhebar ceremony at Chyalti in Bethanchowk-5.
“Fourteen died on the spot, while two succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Scheer Memorial Hospital, Banepa,” Adhikari addied. “The cause of the accident is still unknown as the driver is also undergoing treatment.”
More than 20 others are injured. “Eleven are receiving treatment at Scheer Memorial Hospital, while eight others are undergoing treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital.”
The bus was carrying about 40 passengers who were returning home after attending a Chhebar function at their relative’s house, according to Adhikari.
