Asia Cup: Nepal sets 231-run target for India

KATHMANDU: Nepal has set India a target of 231 runs in its second match of Asia Cup 2023 in Kandy, Sri Lanka, on Monday.

Invited to bat first after losing the toss, Nepal scored 230 runs losing all wickets in 48.2 overs. The opening pair of Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh added 65 runs for the first wicket. Bhurtel scored 38 runs from 25 balls which included three fours and two sixes. Aaasif got his 10th half-century, scoring 58 balls from 97 runs. His innings included eight fours.

Although middle-order batsmen – Bhim Sarki (7), Rohit Poudel (5), Kushal Malla (2) and – fell cheaply, Gulshan Jha, Dipendra Singh Airee and Sompal Kami rebuilt Nepali innings. While Kami fell two runs short of a half-century, scoring 48 runs from 56 balls, Airee and Jha contributed 29 runs and 23 runs, respectively. Sandeep Lamichhane scored nine runs before he was run out, while Lalit Rajbanshi was out on duck. Karan KC remained not out at two.

Mohammad Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each for India, while Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandy and Shardul Thakur had a wicket each to their names.
