KATHMANDU: The uncertainty surrounding the Asia Cup 2023 has finally been resolved.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced on Thursday that the tournament will be hosted in a hybrid model, with four matches taking place in Pakistan and the remaining nine matches being held in Sri Lanka.
The decision means Nepal will play one of its group matches in Pakistan and the other in Sri Lanka.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 17. However, the detailed schedule has not been made public yet.
Initially, Pakistan was selected as the host country. But the tournament’s future had become uncertain after India declined to play matches on Pakistani soil.
The participating teams in the Asia Cup include full members of the ICC from Asia – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka – and Associate Member Nepal. The six teams have been divided into two groups. Nepal is pitted against India and Pakistan in Group A’.
Sri Lanka is the defending champion of the Asia Cup.
