Ashok Raj Sigdel appointed chief of Nepal Army

KATHMANDU: Ashok Raj Sigdel has been appointed as the Chief of Army Staff of the Nepal Army.

President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Sigdel as the 46th army chief as per Article 267 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, the Office of the President said in a statement on Wednesday.

Sigdel, however, will assume the office of the Nepal Army on September 9 when Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Prabhu Ram Sharma completes his term.

Sigdel is currently serving as the acting chief of the army as CoAS Sharma is on a customary month-long home leave ahead of his retirement.
