KATHMANDU: The Ashok Rai–led Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has split.
Many leaders of the party, including Co-chairperson Renu Yadav, have returned to the Upendra Yadav–led JSP Nepal.
JSP was formed in May last year following the split of JSP Nepal.
A memorandum of understanding on party unity was signed by JSP Nepal Chair Upendra Yadav and JSP Co-chair Renu Yadav in Kathmandu on Monday.
Interestingly, JSP Nepal has signed an unification agreement with Mahantha Thakur-led Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) Nepal on Sunday.
JSP Chairperson Ashok Rai has clarified that he is not part of the unification. “Renu Yadav, Pradeep Yadav, and a few others have returned to JSP Nepal. I am not part of this unification,” he said.
Pradeep Yadav, a JSP leader who is returning to the JSP Nepal, said unity was indispensable for safeguarding and advancing the gains of the Madhesh Movement. “To protect and promote federalism and republican setup, achievements of the Madhesh Movement, and to ensure the rights of Madhesh and the Madheshi people in a changing political context, unity between JSP and the JSP Nepal was necessary,” Yadav said. “This unity has been announced by honoring the aspirations and expectations of the Madheshi people.”
