KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has issued arrest warrants for former lawmaker Ang Tawa Sherpa and Pratik Thapa in relation to the ongoing investigation into the Bhutanese refugee scam.

Police are looking for Pratik Thapa, who happens to be the son of former Home Minister and CPN-UML Vice President Ram Bahadur Thapa, after they obtained evidence of his involvement in fraudulent activities. Dr. Indrajit Rai, who served as a security adviser during Ram Bahadur Thapa’s tenure as Home Minister, has already been arrested for investigation.

Pratik had previously released a statement denying any association with the scam. 

Police have so far arrested 12 individuals, including a sitting government secretary and former home minister, for investigation against the scam that swindled tens of millions of rupees out of hundreds of people by promising them to resettle in the US in the name of Bhutanese refugees.

Police have made a total of 12 arrests in the ongoing investigation into the Bhutanese refugee scam. Among those arrested are a sitting government secretary and a former home minister.
