APF establishes disaster management bases at five locations

KATHMANDU: The Armed Police Force (APF) has established disaster management units in five different locations across the country.

The APF has opened dedicated disaster management bases at its battalions in Beni of Myagdi and Amargadhi of Dadeldhura. Additionally, it has upgraded security bases in Adamghat of Dhading, Nijgadh of Bara, and Mulghat of Dhankuta to disaster management bases, according to DSP Shailendra Thapa, the deputy spokesperson for the APF.

Thapa clarified, “The disaster management bases in Nijgadh and Adamghat are under the command of Deputy Superintendents, while the bases in Beni, Mulghat, and Amargadhi are under the command of Inspectors. Trained personnel, along with necessary equipment and logistics, have been deployed to these bases.”

Furthermore, preparations are underway to establish disaster management bases in Bhalubang of Dang and Chipley of Surkhet by the end of this week.

The existing security base in Chipley will be upgraded to a disaster management base, while a new base will be set up at Battalion No. 29 in Bhalubang, Thapa said.

“Personnel trained at the APF Disaster Management Training Institute in Kurintar have been deployed to these bases. These disaster management bases will significantly aid in minimizing the impact of disasters, particularly during the monsoon season, and enhance the effectiveness of rescue operations,” he added.
