KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has sought additional documents in the case against rape-accused cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane.

Hearing the case against the Patan High Court’s decision to release Lamichhane on bail on Friday, a single bench of Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal issued the order to furnish additional documents related to the case.

The Office of the Attorney General filed the case at the apex court to review the high court’s decision on January 30.

A division bench of high court judges Ramesh Dhakal and Dhrubaraj Nanda had decided to release Lamichhane on bail of Rs 2 million on January 12. Earlier, Kathmandu District Court had sent Lamichhane to judicial custody. However, Lamichhane’s attorneys had knocked on the doors of the high court to review the decision.

A 17-year-old girl filed a rape case against Lamichhane on September 6, accusing him of raping her twice on August 21. Lamichhane was initially sent to judicial custody by the Kathmandu District Court but was released on bail by the Patan High Court on January 12.
