KATHMANDU: Nearly three months after the death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal at KIIT University in Odisha, India, another Nepali student has died under suspicious circumstances at the same university.
Prisa Sah, a first-year BTech student from Birgunj, was found dead in her hostel room. Following the discovery, the Odisha state government has launched a high-level investigation to determine the cause of her death.
According to a statement issued Thursday evening by the Department of Information and Public Relations of the state government, police were informed of the incident at 8:10 pm. The university administration then immediately notified the student’s family.
The Odisha government has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the victim’s family. It has also pledged to provide all necessary support to the bereaved.
Senior officials, including the Police Commissioner and the Revenue Commissioner of Odisha, visited the site shortly after receiving the report.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that it was in touch with the Indian government, the Odisha state authorities, and the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi to ensure a thorough investigation.
In the wake of the incident, Nepali students at KIIT University have reportedly been restricted from leaving their hostels.
