ANNFSU says won’t padlock educational institutions anymore

KATHMANDU: The student wing of the main opposition CPN-UML has said that it will discontinue the practice of closing educational institutions as a form of protest.

Chairman of the All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), Samik Badal, made the announcement, at a press meet in Kathmandu on Sunday.

Acknowledging the negative of impacts of padlocking on the teaching and learning environment, Badal expressed the organization’s commitment to refrain from such actions in the future. “We have already communicated this directive to our lower committees, urging them not to engage in padlocking of educational institutions,” he added.

Badal, however, said that the ANNFSU may resort to other peaceful forms of protest when the situation demands it.

Badal also assured that the ANNFSU would extend its support to local-level initiatives aimed at bringing about reforms in community schools. “ANNFSU is willing to collaborate with these efforts to enhance the educational landscape and create a conducive learning environment in the country,” he added.
