Anjila, Outlaw: Dafa 219 out now in theaters

KATHMANDU: Two Nepali films, Anjila and Outlaw: Dafa 219, premiered in theaters on Thursday, coinciding with the Fagu Purnima.

Anjila is a biopic on Anjila Tumbapo Subba, the captain and goalkeeper of the Nepali national women’s football team. The film traces her journey from childhood, capturing her dreams of a sports career, the challenges she faced amid family struggles and her rise to becoming a celebrated captain. Anjila stars as herself in the lead role, while Dayahang Rai and Sirjana Subba play the characters of her parents. Directed by Milan Chams, the movie features an ensemble cast of Sunil Thapa, Bijaya Baral, Maotse Gurung and Buddhi Tamang.

Produced by Prem Kumar Shrestha, Anjila was filmed in Anjila’s birthplace in Aitabare of Ilam as well as in Jhapa and Kathmandu. Sudeep Baral handled the cinematography, while Milan Shrestha took charge of editing.

In contrast, Outlaw: Dafa 219 delivers high-octane action with Sushil Shrestha leading the cast. The film also stars Naresh Poudel, Shiksha Sangroula, Suman Bhandari, Hem Gurung and Soni Lagun. Written and directed by Vicky Maharjan, it features cinematography by Navin Gurung and editing by Sahil Khan, while fight sequences are choreographed by Chhulthe Kaaji.

Produced by Amit Agrahari under the banner of Shadow Pictures and Retro Films, the thriller promises to captivate fans of the action genre.

Joining these releases, are films like Hostel 3, Feri Resham Filili, and Laj Shranam which hit the theaters last week.
