KATHMANDU: The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has proposed to hold the men’s top-flight football league from December 24 to July 10 next year.
Publishing its revised calendar for the remainder of 2025 earlier this week, ANFA said the Martyr’s Memorial Men’s ‘A’ Division League would be held in a home-and-away format using 14 grounds across the country.
ANFA hasn’t held the men’s ‘A’ Division league since the 2023 season.
Although ANFA hopes the decision to take the league outside the capital will help expand the fan base, it has not explained how it intends to handle the logistical challenge of moving teams across the country with limited budgets—especially since all 14 top-flight sides are based in the Kathmandu Valley. Moreover, ANFA has yet to discuss the plan with representatives of the 14 ‘A’ Division clubs.
According to an ANFA official, the plan is to urge top-flight clubs to select their new home across the country so that they can grow their fan base and explore new revenue sources.
ANFA has invited representatives of all ‘A’ Division clubs to discuss the modalities of the upcoming league on October 12.
Newcomers Church Boys United are the reigning champions of the Martyrs Memorial ‘A’ Division League. Church Boys lifted the title after a goalless draw with Three Star Club on June 6, 2023, becoming only the second team in the 68-year history to win ‘C’, ‘B’ and ‘A’ division leagues in consecutive seasons after Manang Marshyangdi Club.
