KATHMANDU: Nepal’s ambassador to the BENELUX countries and Head of Mission to the European Union, Sewa Lamsal, presented her Letters of Credence to King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands on Thursday.

The ceremony, held at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague, marked the official commencement of Ambassador Lamsal’s diplomatic tenure in the Netherlands.
“The ceremony was held amidst a grand celebration with full diplomatic protocols, reflecting the deep bond of friendship and shared values between the two countries. The presentation of Letters of Credence began with the playing of four drum rolls, followed by the national anthem of Nepal and the inspection of the guard of honor. Following the ceremony, the Ambassador was granted a private audience with King Willem-Alexander,” the Embassy of Nepal in Brussels said in a statement.

During the meeting, Ambassador Lamsal briefed the King on Nepal’s latest political developments, including the formation of the interim government, and outlined the government’s key priorities. She highlighted the cordial bilateral relationship, expressing deep appreciation for the Netherlands’ development cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic relations on April 2, 1960, and for its continued support through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations and the European Union.

In reply, King Willem-Alexander congratulated Ambassador Lamsal on her appointment and wished her a successful tenure. He extended his best wishes to the President and people of Nepal and fondly recalled his visit to Nepal as Crown Prince in January 1997.
