All seven provinces present budget for 2023/24

KATHMANDU: Six provinces simultaneously brought their respective budgets for the fiscal year 2023/24. Koshi Province brought its budget by issuing an ordinance on Saturday.

The constitution requires provincial governments to bring budgets for the new fiscal year on the first day of the 12th month of the fiscal year i.e. June 16.

Bagmati Province brought the highest budget of Rs 62.7 billion, while Sudurpashchim had proposed to spend the lowest amount (Rs 29.3 billion) in the next fiscal year.

The Koshi Province Government has proposed to spend Rs 36.24 billion in the fiscal year 2023/24, which is nearly Rs 3 billion less than the budget allocated for the current fiscal year.

Chief Minister Hikmat Bahadur Karki presented the fiscal budget by organizing a press meet on Thursday. Of the total budget, Rs 18.23 billion has been earmarked for capital expenditure and Rs 14.39 billion for recurrent expenditure. The provincial government has prioritized health and agriculture in the budget.

Similarly, the Madhesh Province has tabled a budget of Rs 46.92 billion for the new fiscal year.

Presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2023/24 in the Madhesh Province Assembly, Minister for Economic Affairs Sanjaya Yadav said Rs 18.21 billion has been earmarked for recurrent expenditure, Rs 25.69 billion for capital expenditure, and Rs 200 million for financial management.

Bagmati Province Government has brought a budget of Rs 62.70 billion for the fiscal year 2023/24.

Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Bahadur Singh Lama presented his first fiscal budget in the Bagmati Province Assembly on Friday. Lama has earmarked Rs 26.70 million for recurrent expenditure, Rs 35.5 billion for capital expenditure, and Rs 500 million for financial management.

Gandaki Province Government has proposed to spend Rs 33.43 million in the coming fiscal year. The budget is around Rs 2 billion less compared to the budget of the current fiscal year.

Presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2023/24 in the Gandaki Province Assembly on Friday, Minister for Economic Affairs Jit Prakash Ale Magar said Rs 12.73 million has been earmarked for recurrent expenditure, Rs 20.19 billion for capital expenditure, and Rs 500 million for financial management.

Likewise, Lumbini Province Government also presented its fiscal budget on Friday. The Lumbini Province Government has proposed to spend Rs 40.48 million in the fiscal year 2023/24.

Dhan Bahadur Maski, Minister for Economic Affairs of the Lumbini Province Government, presented the budget for the fiscal year 2023/24 in the Lumbini Province Assembly on Friday.

The provincial government has allocated Rs 15.63 billion for recurrent expenditure and Rs 23.25 billion for capital expenditure. Additionally, it has set aside Rs 3.58 billion for financial management.

Similarly, the Karnali Province Government has brought a budget of Rs 22.37 billion for the new fiscal year.

Minister for Economic Affairs Bedraj Singh presented the budget in the Karnali Province Assembly on Friday. The provincial government has proposed to spend Rs 9 billion for recurrent expenditure and Rs 19.97 billion for capital expenditure.

Sudurpashchim Province Government has brought a budget of Rs 29.26 billion for the fiscal year 2023/24.

Presenting the budget for the new fiscal year in the Sudurpashchim Province Assembly on Friday, Minister for Economic Affairs Naresh Bahadur Shahi said Rs 9.59 billion has been earmarked for recurrent expenditure, Rs 17.02 billion for capital expenditure, and Rs 300 million for financial management.
