KATHMANDU: All 20 lawmakers of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) have resigned en masse.

According to party spokesperson Manish Jha, the parliamentary party office unanimously endorsed the party secretariat’s directive to announce the resignations.

The party concluded that the current federal parliament has lost legitimacy after failing to resolve pressing national issues. As a way forward, it has proposed the urgent formation of an interim citizen-led government.

In a statement issued after the parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday, the RSP said the resignations were submitted in full support of Generation Z’s demands and aspirations, and as a commitment to continue participating in the ongoing movement.

The RSP has also put forward five key proposals to address the political crisis. Its first demand is the immediate resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The party has also called for a high-level judicial commission to independently investigate Monday’s incidents and for the establishment of an all-party, citizen-led government.

In addition, the RSP has demanded the dismissal and detention of the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Communication Minister, and Kathmandu’s Chief District Officer, along with strong action against all those responsible.
