KATHMANDU: Popular actor Dayahang Rai has produced a video to raise awareness on red panda conservation.
In collaboration with the Red Panda Network, an organization working for red panda conservation, Rai has made a video of about three and a half minutes.
Speaking at the launching of the video on Tuesday, Sonam Tashi Lama, program coordinator at the Red Panda Network, which has been working for red panda conservation since 2007, said the video was prepared to further increase awareness about red pandas at the community level. “Just like we all repeatedly said ‘let’s wash our hands’ during the COVID pandemic, there are some things that need to be repeated,” Lama said. “We made this video to help effectively instill the message of protecting red pandas in people’s minds and for reminders.”
Rai said their effort was focused on evoking love for red pandas. “The video is presented in a musical format similar to how we work in the theater,” Rai said.
He believes actors also have a responsibility towards wildlife conservation. “One day, we will bring this three-minute video to the stage as a complete story,” he added.
In the video, a character dressed as a red panda in the attire of indigenous communities narrates its story. It features a poem by Anup Nyaupane and music music composition by Benuka Rai.
