KATHMANDU: The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is celebrating its 119th anniversary on Thursday. Founded by eight visionary accountants in 1904, ACCA has evolved into a global community with 241,000 members and 542,000 future members across 178 countries.
The organization’s journey began with a commitment to providing a platform for individuals aspiring to enter the accounting profession. Today, this founding value remains central to ACCA’s mission, emphasizing the importance of qualification through examination and experience, according to a statement issued by ACCA Nepal Chapter
Within three years of its establishment, the association had members in five countries. By 1910, examinations were conducted beyond the UK, marking the beginning of ACCA’s global presence. Membership continued to expand, with significant milestones achieved between 1950 and 2002, witnessing a 600% growth.
As of now, ACCA boasts over 233,000 members and 536,000 future members. With a presence in 178 countries, ACCA is a thriving global community that upholds the highest professional and ethical values.
According to the statement, the organization believes in the pivotal role of accountancy as a cornerstone profession that supports both private and public sectors. “ACCA is dedicated to fostering a robust global accountancy profession, recognizing the positive impact it brings to organizations, individuals, and society at large.
“Our qualifications develop forward-thinking professionals with the financial and business skills essential for the creation of sustainable economies and flourishing societies. Every day, ACCA professional accountants support people and organizations in making sound decisions and doing the right thing,” it said, adding: “We build public trust by creating an inclusive profession with people from all backgrounds, bound by a common global code of ethics and committed to updating their skills to meet ever-changing needs.”
As it enters its 120th year of operation, ACCA says it remains dedicated to leading the profession, anticipating challenges, and staying at the forefront of global accountancy.
