KATHMANDU: Traffic resumed on the BP Highway on Sunday evening after authorities cleared landslide debris and mud from several sections of the road following days of heavy rainfall.

The highway, the shortest road link to the eastern part of the country from Kathmandu, had remained blocked since Saturday morning after continuous rainfall on Friday and Saturday triggered landslides and deposited mud, rocks and debris at multiple locations between Chaukidanda and Nepalthok in Kavre.

According to the District Police Office, Kavre, efforts to clear the road began on Sunday morning using heavy equipment. Security personnel and technical teams were also mobilized to reopen the highway.

Traffic resumed after mud and debris brought down by a flash flood at Pinthali in Roshi-9 and a landslide at Gimdibesi in Roshi-8 were cleared.
