Call to revoke Ani Chhoying Dolma’s appointment as LADT vice president

KATHMANDU: The National Gen Z Citizens’ Campaign has demanded the immediate reversal of the government’s decision to appoint Ani Choying Dolma as vice chairperson of the Lumbini Development Trust.

A cabinet meeting held on October 16 appointed Dolma to the post on a proposal from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

In a statement issued on Monday, the campaign said it was seriously concerned about the appointment as placing an individual under legal investigation in charge of an institution responsible for developing and managing a sacred religious and cultural heritage site was contrary to the rule of law and the principles of good governance.

The campaign also said an investigation into Dolma’s assets had been pending at the Department of Money Laundering Investigation since 2000, while the District Administration Office, Kapilvastu was investigating issues related to her citizenship.

The statement also said there were allegations that Dolma obtained citizenship in 2007 by falsely claiming to be the daughter of the late Kanchan Bahadur Lama, who lived within the jurisdiction of the then Chapakot Police Post. According to the campaign, Kanchan Bahadur’s son, Praman Singh Lama, and local residents filed complaints with the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, with evidence.

The campaign further said the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, had yet to provide citizenship-related details requested by Kathmandu police.

Claiming that the appointment posed a threat to national independence, sovereignty and security, the campaign urged the government to revoke its decision without delay.

Warning that it would be compelled to launch a broad-based citizens’ movement if its demand was not addressed, the campaign said the government would be responsible for any consequences arising from such a protest.
