Gandaki govt publishes preliminary details of loss

KATHMANDU: The Budhigandaki flood has washed away several bridges and houses and damaged infrastructure in Gorkha district, according to preliminary details released by the Gandaki provincial government.

The flood swept away an old suspension bridge connecting Nyakchet and Sirdibas in Chumnubri Rural Municipality-3. It also destroyed a house belonging to Ram Bahadur Gurung in Sirdibas and inundated another house.

In Dharche Rural Municipality-5, the flood washed away a suspension bridge connecting Machhikhola and Kerauja. Floodwater entered five to seven houses and a similar number of temporary structures in the lower settlement of Machhikhola.

Around 20 to 22 houses in Salleri, Dharche Rural Municipality-3, are at risk from the flood, according to the preliminary assessment.

The flood also swept away a steel bridge at Soti connecting wards 2 and 3 of Aarughat Rural Municipality.

In Chumnubri Rural Municipality-3, the flood washed away the under-construction Sahaj Urja powerhouse in Salleri and around seven to eight houses in the surrounding area.

Meanwhile, a section of the concrete bridge at Nayapul in Aarughat Rural Municipality-9, which connects Aarughat with Dhading district, was washed away.
