KATHMANDU: The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has decided to hold its general convention only after the local-level elections.
A meeting of the party’s Central Coordination Committee held on Friday decided to hold ward conventions across the country on December 26, according to party spokesperson Prakash Jwala.
The meeting also decided to hold its municipal conventions on January 29.
It has decided to hold district and provincial conventions after the local-level elections. The party, however, has not fixed dates for these conventions.
The term of the local governments elected in 2022 is expiring in April next year. Although the Election Commission has started preparations for the polls, it has not clearly stated when the local body polls would be held.
The NCP, which was formed following the merger of the CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist) and several other left parties, had previously unveiled a schedule to hold its general convention by mid-December. But it suspended the schedule, citing floods, landslides and other political developments.
