KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML is holding a meeting of its Standing Committee on Thursday afternoon.
Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari, who was named the party’s Senior Leader by the party’s Secretariat on September 24, will also attend the meeting. The party’s Central Committee subsequently endorsed the decision.
Bhandari has been given the second-highest position in the party hierarchy as a senior leader.
The meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the party headquarters in Chyasal, Lalitpur.
The UML’s Central Committee meeting held on September 21-25 nominated Ishwar Pokhrel, Pradeep Gyawali, Kashinath Adhikari, Devraj Ghimire, Shivamaya Tumbahamphe, Lal Babu Pandit and Tham Maya Thapa as members of the Standing Committee. Thursday’s meeting is the first since their appointment.
According to the party, the Standing Committee will discuss the country’s current political situation, the party’s future course of action and organizational activities.
The meeting will also discuss preparations for the upcoming local-level elections.
