KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) is holding elections on Thursday to elect its new Central Working Committee as part of the party’s 15th General Convention.

According to the party’s Central Election Committee, voting will begin at 1 p.m.

Although voting was originally scheduled for 7 a.m., it was later postponed to 10 a.m. and now to 1 p.m., citing technical reasons.

A total of 7,255 convention delegates are eligible to vote in the election to choose the party’s new leadership.

As per the amended party statute, Nepali Congress will have a 297-member Central Working Committee with 25 office-bearers. Two office-bearers, Senior Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Vice President (Women) Pushpa Bhusal have already been elected unopposed.

According to the Central Election Committee, voting is being conducted at seven polling centers at three locations in Kathmandu.

Delegates from Bagmati Province will vote at the National Assembly Hall, while those from Gandaki and Lumbini provinces will cast their ballots at the Nepal Academy. Similarly, delegates from Koshi, Madhesh, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces will vote at Khula Manch. Delegates representing the party’s fraternal and well-wisher organizations, as well as diaspora committees, will also cast their ballots at Khula Manch.

The Central Election Committee has instructed delegates to report to their designated polling centers and verify their identity and names on the voter list before casting their ballots.
