KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index fell 20.48 points to close trading at 2,566.76 points on Monday, the first trading day of the week.
With this, the Nepse index has logged losses in six of the past eight trading sessions.
The market remained under pressure throughout the session. Although the index pared some losses after hitting an intraday low of 2,559.13 points, it still ended the session in the red.
A total of 9,003,388 shares of 359 companies changed hands through 44,777 transactions on Monday. Of the scrips traded, 242 declined, while 32 advanced and four remained unchanged. Total turnover declined to Rs 3.28 billion from the previous session.
Among individual stocks, 10.3% Standard Chartered Bank Ltd Debenture posted the highest gain of 5.75%. 10% Nepal SBI Debenture 2086 and Global IME Samunnat Yojana-2 followed with gains of 4.98% each. On the other hand, Trishuli Jalvidyut Company Ltd logged the largest loss of 5.84%. Sindhu Bikash Bank and 10.25% Citizens Bank Debenture 2086 were next, with losses of 5.8% and 5.79%, respectively.
Ghalemdi Hydropower Ltd topped the turnover chart with total transactions worth Rs 228.67 million. Hathway Investment Ltd and Shivam Cements Ltd were next, with turnovers of Rs 84.9 million and Rs 84.39 million, respectively.
Except for the Trading sub-index, which posted a gain of 0.33%, all trading groups ended the session in the red. The Investment sub-index posted the biggest loss of 1.07%. The Finance and Hotels & Tourism sub-indices were next, with losses of 1.06% and 1.05%, respectively.
