EC registers Deuba faction’s letter regarding 15th General Convention

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has registered a letter from the Sher Bahadur Deuba faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) even though it does not recognize the faction.

Former NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba sent the letter, which also includes the schedule of the general convention starting from the ward-level convention, to the EC on Tuesday.

The Deuba faction’s ward-level conventions kicked off on Thursday as part of the 15th General Convention.

EC officials have instructed its front office to register the letter and maintain the record by creating a file.

In the letter, Deuba reminded the Election Commission that the Supreme Court had granted permission to review its earlier decision in the dispute over the party’s official status.

He also informed the EC that the five-year term of the party’s Central Working Committee elected by the 14th General Convention, including the extension allowed under the party statute, will expire in mid-December 2026.

“Accordingly, a decision has been made to hold the 15th General Convention of the party in Kathmandu from December 7-9, 2026
