KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has urged lawmakers with technical backgrounds to use their expertise and experience to contribute to the country’s development.
Shah made the remarks during a meeting with members of the House of Representatives with technical backgrounds at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Wednesday.
The prime minister also urged the lawmakers to focus more on long-term policies and new ideas rather than political issues.
“You are experts in technical fields and are in a position to help formulate national policies. Make maximum use of your knowledge, skills and experience for the country’s development,” Shah said in the meeting, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
The prime minister also urged the lawmakers to give priority to their technical expertise and professional identities alongside party politics.
“It is natural for lawmakers to be active in party politics during elections and other political activities,” Shah said. “But you must focus on technical issues related to national development at other times.”
