Tinau flood sweeps away five houses in Butwal, 900 evacuated

BUTWAL: Flooding in the Tinau River swept away five houses in Butwal on Saturday midnight.

The houses were washed away at around 12:45 a.m. in the Tap Majhuwa area of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City-11.

The houses belonged to Sakil Miya, Narendra Darji, Abdul Ali, Gaffardin Miya and Durgadin Baniya.

Two vacant plots were also swept away by the flood.

Following continuous rainfall, the water level in the Tinau River rose above the warning level on Saturday, prompting authorities to evacuate around 900 people from vulnerable areas to safer locations.

The evacuation was carried out under the supervision of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Khelraj Pandey.

As the water level in the river remains high, officials have urged residents living along the riverbanks and in low-lying areas prone to flooding to exercise extreme caution.

The water level in the Tinau River is currently stable. Locals living near the river have started moving their belongings to safer places.
