Prime Minister Shah returns home after attending 81st UNGA

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah returned home on Saturday afternoon after attending the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Shah had left New York on Friday evening aboard a Qatar Airways flight for Kathmandu via Doha. He was seen off at John F. Kennedy International Airport by Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Lok Bahadur Thapa and other officials.

Shah addressed the UN General Assembly on Friday morning, drawing the attention of the global community toward the impacts of climate change in the Himalayas. He also called for formation of a Himalayan Climate Resilience Mechanism, led by Nepal, India and China, to share data and information about glacial lakes and strengthen early warning system.

During his stay in New York, Shah held separate meetings with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
